4 Months Old!!!

I can't believe it but on the 21st the Nata turned four months old! She had her doctor's appointment that day also. She weighed 14 lbs (55th%), was 24 1/8 inches long (48th%) and her head circumference was 41 cm (50th%).

This week has been a little hard for her. I gave her my cold so she has had a cough and been very congested. She got four shots at the doctor's office and has got a fever from them and we had to go to Kosair Children's Hospital to get her hip x-rayed. We had to go do this because during her check-up her hip was popping when the doctor rotated her leg. Luckily we got the results back on Friday and everything was normal.

She has learned to do some many new things recently. She plays with rattles and stuffed animals especially a little lamb. Don't worry, she is not eating the lamb she is just playing with it!!!She grabs anything in sight. I think Tia Lucia learned this yesterday when she grabbed and wouldn't let go of her hair! She talks a lot! Tia Cynthia thinks she is turning French because she does this funny "R" sound with her throat and (this one is the best) she has started GIGGLING!! She doesn't do it all the time but both Jason and I have heard her several times. It's the greatest sound!!

She is still not incredibly fond of tummy time but she is getting better every day. Yesterday when she was down for tummy time she started trying to get her knees under her body. She gave up pretty quickly though!! How fun crawling will be!! She has also realized that sitting is much more fun than laying down and that you can see so much more that way. She still can't sit on her own but we try to prop her on pillows and on our lap and she does pretty well. She has had some moments that she just can't hold her body up any more and falls forward on her face. Jason and I try not to laugh but it is just so darn cute. She just waits there for you to come and rescue her!

Bath time for her has also become bath time for me. We are still using her infant bath tub and she is just to big for it now. Water splashes everywhere!! I get soaked every time. She thinks its hilarious!

Introducing solid foods will not happen this month. I think we are going to try to wait until she is 6 months old unless she decides otherwise. That is fine with me. I am glad that we don't have to go buy a high chair in the middle of trying to move!!

Happy Father's Day!

Unfortunately we weren't able to do much this day. We are getting ready to move so we started packing. We have been so busy lately that I think Jason enjoyed having a day off with no commitments.
Happy Father's Day!!

A Day without the Nata. How sad!

Jason and I went to Churchill downs with his Dad and Patty. The Nata spent the day with Tita and Tia Cynthia. I am sure they all had a great time, and we did too, but it what sad not having her around all day long!

I must say, I suck at horse betting!! Patty did great and Jason at least won half of our money back. Well, it sounds like a lot but it was only $36 (sorry Jason!). I lost! Every time! I didn't even come close most of the time!!

Oh well, it was a great afternoon. Thanks Pappaw and Mammaw Patty.

I almost forgot!

For the wedding part, Karina's Mom made party hats and bought some maracas. At one point, when everyone had had enough drinks, she got them out and passed them around. Everyone put them on and kept on dancing and partying. It was hillarious!! Only in Ecuador!!

Growing in Ecuador

Natalie grew so much while we were gone. Jason's family is hardly going to recognize her. For the first time she got to try the exersaucer. Annie's daugther has an eight month old baby so her house was baby ready. The first time I put the Nata in it she was slouching down and didn't know what to do. By the end of the week she was loving it!! She was so active and wanted to stand and sit on your lap the whole time. I am surprised she did so well even though she had the poops. We all thought she got a little more round down there. She is so cute!!

ECUADOR!!!

We just got back from going to Ecuador, where I grew up. We went there for Tio David's wedding. He married his high school sweetheart Karina. Of course the Nata came along also. Of course right before we left she got an ear infecion (See "Funky Ear" post). Lucklily she must have gotten it out of her system becuase she did great on the airplane. Poor Tia Lucia had more ear problems than Natalie!! Our flight left on Saturday May 27th at 2 pm, from Cinci. We got into Guayaquil at midnight. We were all exhausted.

On Sunday we went to meet Karina's family. We had lunch at her parents' house. Natalie got to meet her new little cousin Paulina, Karina's 4 year old daughter. Paulina and Natalie got along great. She was already asking me when Natalie is going to visit her in Germany (where David is stationed). Sunday Natalie also got to meet Abuelito ( my Dad) for the first time. We went out for coffee and dessert. Of course he just loved her. Then we went to see the Krumholz. That is where Lucia, Pat and Cynthia stayed. It was great to see them, we hadn't seen them since we had left Ecuador 10 years ago. They also loved Natalie. Everyone was calling her "sonrisa barata" which means cheap smile, becuase she smiles at everything.

Monday and Tuesday we spent in this town in the mountains called Cuenca. It's really old and has some beautliful buildings and churches. On our way to Cuenca, which ended up taking 7 hours becuase the roads were so bad, we stopped at Ingapirca which are Inca Ruins. When we got to Cuenca it was dark and Jason said it reminded him of Rome. I think he changed his mind the following morning when he saw it in daylight. Don't get me wrong, it's a beaultiful town but they still have a long way to go renovating the old buildings. They have done a wonderful job with the main square and the main road and the cathedral is incredibly impressive. It's made out of red marble!

Wednesday was the civil ceremony. In Ecuador first you get married by the law and then you have the church ceremony. The ceremony was at Karina's parents house. We had a great time. Poor David was sweating bullets!! Of course Natalie had no problems sleeping in a pack and play that Karina's family had set up for her. They were all very nice and accomodating.

Thursday we all took a day trip to Playas which means Beaches. It's a beach about an hour away from Guayaquil. We wanted the Gringos (Jason and Pat) to be able to see the mountains and the coast of Ecuador. Unfortunately it is not beach season any more so the water was a little too cold to get in. This was the day that Natalie got the poops. Poor thing she had been taken to so many places she was great the whole time. This was her bad day. She was pretty fussy and with reason. She had 7 poopy diappers in one day! Can you imagine!!

Friday Natalie and Jason got to meet some of my old friends. I hadn't seen any of them in seven years. Everyone looked pretty much the same but we have all had babies and finished school and are working. It's amazing how fast seven years can go by. Poor Jason had to endure a two hour lunch with all girls catching up in spanish. He did really good and was really patient. I think they made his day becuase they said that Natalie looked like him but she had my eyes!!

Oh my, how fast this week went. Saturday was the big day, the church wedding. We all met at Annie's house (my Mom's friend that invited us to stay at her house) to get dressed becuase it was about 5 minutes away from the Church. The ceremony was beautiful. Natalie didn't even make a peep!! After that came the PARTY!! Natalie was taken to Karina's sister Claudia's house with Paulina and the rest of the cousins. Irene's nanny (Claudia's baby) was going to take care of Natalie also. Jason and I did our best to party with the rest but you have to understand Ecuadorians party hard. By 12:30am (the party started at 6pm) we were ready to go get Natalie and go back to Annie's. This is where the night got a little stressful (for Jason a lot stressful). We went to get Natalie and no one answered the door. We knocked on the window and nothing. We called on the phone, nothing! Jason was freaking out! We went back to the wedding and found Claudia's husband who sent us back with the keys. By this time Jason was sweating and imagining all the kidnapping stories he had heard. We got to the house and went in and found them all alseep in one room. They couldn't hear anything because the air conditioner was on (people don't use central air in Ecuador becuase electricity is too expensive). Natalie was asleep of course. Jason picked her up and didn't let her go until we got to Annie's and layed her on the crib there. What a night!!

Sunday was our last day. My Dad took us on a tour to the cemetery. I know it's kind of morbid but it's something you just have to see. It's really different from any cemetery here in the US. I had never been inside the cemetery either. My Dad's family has a mosolium there so we wanted to go see it. After that we went to "Las Peñas" a historic neighborhood in Guayaquil. It looked great the city did a great job renovating it and cleaning it up. ON Sunday unfortunateoy we had to say good bye to everyone. We made a bunch of stops to make sure we saaw everyone, including David and Karina, before we left the next day. Our friend Cesar also came by to see us and meet Natalie. We had sucha busy week that we hadn't had a chance to see him yet. We got done with everything around 10 pm and we still had to pack!! Ourflight left the next mornign at 7:45 am.

We were exhausted when we got back home but we were glad we went. Thanks to Annie and Gustavo for welcoming us into their house and the Krumholz and Karina's family. They all made us fell at home again. It was also great seeing my Dad. I hadn't seen him in a long time and I was glad he got to meet the Nata. Sorry for making this entry so long. There was a lot to say.

How fun!

Natalie is getting to be such a fun little baby (not that she wasn't before when all she did was sleep, eat and poop!). She smiles, talks and moves around a bunch. Once in a while she even screams!

Everyday she is getting better at tummy time even though she is still not crazy about it. She rolls over and then cries a bit. Now when we put her on the bed propped on a pillow we have to make sure to put her in the middle becuase as soon as she spits her pacifier out she dives to the side to go find it and ends up on her tummy. It's pretty funny to watch her finally figure out where that darn pacifier went!! She has found the toys in her bouncy seat and is now able to grab and pull on them and has decided that the swing is just way too boring to stay there long.

She is sleeping through the night, every night. What a great thing!!This became a sure thing one day at day care when Miss Theresa and Miss Lizza told me that she like sleeping on her side. That once she is on her side she gets comfortable and just drifts off to sleep without fussing. Of course Jason and I gave this a try and they were right!! She LOVES laying on her side and now we just set her down and she watches the Fisher Price Aquarium for a little while and she just falls asleep. It has made putting her to sleep a very easy task. What a great baby!! We are so lucky!!

Congratulations Uncle Ryan!!

We went to see Uncle Ryan graduate from High School. How exciting!!Unfortunately the cremony was a little long for the Nata and she fell asleep. That's ok, I am sure Pappaw, Mammaw Patty and Ryan appreciate the effort. Ryan, now we have to teach how how to smile in pictures!! :)
